The HumHub Project is announcing that HumHub with version number 0.20.1 / 1.0.0-beta.4 is already available to download.
What is HumHub ?
HumHub is .
HumHub is a PHP script coded on top of the Yii PHP framework that provides an easy to use toolkit for creating and launching your own social network. While chances to overtake Mark Zuckerberg are quite low, social networks, online portals, and smaller communities can also be built with this tool, so don’t dismiss HumHub as something esoteric or even useless. The platform can be used for internal collaboration tools that can range from a few users up to huge Intranets that serve companies with hundreds and thousands of employees. HumHub was built around the concept of “spaces”, personal dashboards where only selected users can interact and share news, messages, and files with each other. Multiple spaces can be created inside a HumHub installation, and multiple users can register and only have access to a predefined set of spaces. Various user levels are supported, along with different permissions, all very useful when trying to divide users in different access tiers. HumHub also caters to developers, letting them adapt the frontend styles via themes, and also extend functionality via specially crafted modules. The platform was meant to be self-hosted and currently comes with pretty normal requirements, working with most shared hosting environments around. Besides the pretty neat user-center management features, HumHub also comes with support for more low-level features like LDAP authentication, OEmbed support, social sign-ins, cron jobs, activity logging, and a basic debug tool. Overall HumHub even if quite new on the market, establishes itself as a serious contender for the title of best open source social network engine around.
