Ubuntu 13.04 Officially Released

Dubbed Raring Ringtail, the Ubuntu 13.04 operating system is the 18th release of the Ubuntu OS, which will be supported for 9 months, until January 2014, on both desktops and servers.

Being powered by Linux kernel 3.8.8, the Ubuntu 13.04 release brings support new hardware, as well as improves support for current and old hardware components. Check our comprehensive Ubuntu review for more details.

Raring Ringtail comes in the following official editions: Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu Server, Ubuntu Cloud Server, Ubuntu Netboot, Ubuntu Core, Ubuntu Studio, Edubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, as well as two new flavors, Ubuntu-GNOME and UbuntuKylin. (more…)

Ubuntu 13.04 Beta Raring Ringtail Officially Released

The final beta of Ubuntu 13.04 has been made available for download.

Also shipping alongside it are betas for all of the official Ubuntu spins, including the newly anointed Ubuntu GNOME and Ubuntu Kylin projects.

Key features new to Ubuntu 13.04, and available in this beta, include:

  • New shutdown and session exit dialogs
  • A new sync menu for Ubuntu One
  • Faster, more performant Unity
  • New interface animations, including window snap
  • Scroll-switching of open windows from Unity Launcher

Mulai Tradisi Baru, Ubuntu 13.04 Akan Hilangkan Rilis Alpha

Canonical tampaknya serius melakukan pemikiran Mark Shuttleworth tentang pentingnya mengembangkan software dan fitur Ubuntu secara tertutup dulu sebelum dilepas ke publik untuk meminimalisir kritik. Kini, dalam salah satu blog post (lihat: http://www.theorangenotebook.com/2012/10/uds-r-rise-of-the-quality-machines.html), om Nicholas Skaggs yang merupakan Koordinator Quality Assurance dari Komunitas Canonical mengungkapkan skema rilis baru yang akan mulai diadopsi untuk pengembangan Ubuntu 13.04 mendatang.

Skaggs menyebutkan bahwa, daripada mengikuti tradisi milestone lawas dari Ubuntu sebelumnya, Canonical lebih memilih untuk melakukan proses testing 2 mingguan dari semua proses development. Sumbernya adalah dari Daily ISO yang digenerate tiap hari. Kemudian tradisi pembekuan fitur dari utak-atik penambahan/pengurangan kemampuan (Feature Freeze) akan dimajukan beberapa minggu dari biasanya.
