Tutorial Windows: Schedule Audio Recordings in Windows
When everything’s going on pretty fast, and without a proper schedule, your best chance is luck. For example, you might be on the road every time your favorite radio show pops on, and can’t possibly connect to listen to it.
One method is to call that really good buddy of yours and have him record the show for you to listen afterwards. In case you feel like not disturbing anyone with your inquiries, it’s good to know that there are computer applications out there that do the job for you.
Snooping through the application database, we managed to find a couple of programs in this regard that, not only can they record sound both from system and microphone, but also configured to do so automatically at regular time intervals.
Setting up a scheduled recording session
Using Total Recorder Pro:
Step 1: Download, install, and run Total Recorder Pro.
Step 2: Under the Tools menu, select Schedule.
Step 3: Press the New button to set up session rules.
Step 4: Set the Job to Record, and choose to apply it for a specific Duration, or Absolute Period.
Step 5: Set recurrence and start time.
Note: In the Advanced menu, you can make the program stop when a specific file size is met, when a time limit is reached, or if there’s long silence. Additionally, computer power options can be triggered when a task is finished.
Step 6: Click the Recording Source and Parameters button.
Step 7: Set the source to Sound board, and pick the System Default Device from the drop-down menu. You can save the preset for later use. Press OK to confirm changes.
Step 8: Choose an output name, directory, and extension for the new file.
Note: The application can Split File According to the Specified Conditions that are either based on time, silence, and duplicate sound.
Using Apowersoft Free Audio Recorder:
Step 1: Download, install, and run Apowersoft Free Audio Recorder.
Step 2: Press the Audio Input button to select System Sound.
Note: Accessing the Options panel under the Tools menu gives you the possibility to skip silent passages in the recording process, auto-generate file name, set hotkeys, or discard recordings shorter than a specified amount of time.
Step 3: From the Tools menu, choose to Create Scheduled Tasks.
Step 4: Write down the file name, choose method and start time, and whether or not to Shut Down After Recording.
Step 5: Hit the Create button. You can add more tasks or press OK to confirm changes.
