For Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) development, the Ubuntu developers have decided to stick with the modified Natty release schedule. That means, to three Alpha versions and two Beta releases. Without further introduction, here is the official release schedule for Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot):
- June 2nd, 2011 – Alpha 1 release
- June 30th, 2011 – Alpha 2 release
- August 4th, 2011 – Alpha 3 release
- September 1st, 2011 – Beta 1 release
- September 22nd, 2011 – Beta 2 release
- October 13th, 2011 – Final release of Ubuntu 11.10
The work on Ubuntu 11.10 will start in one month after Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) will be released, on April 28th, 2011. For the Oneiric Ocelot development, the Ubuntu development team will focus their efforts on improving Unity. Both the 2D and the OpenGL versions of Unity will be available in Ubuntu 11.10.
It will be the 15th release of the Ubuntu operating system. Until then, we have another version that should catch our attention and invade our computers, Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal), which will be released on April 28th, 2011. Until the first Alpha version of Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) will be made available for testing, on June 2nd, we will have the first Ubuntu Developer Summit (UDS) event for 2011, between May 9th and 13th. The event will take place in Budapest, Hungary.
Ganbate! Ubuntu team!
