Linux News Today: elementary OS 0.3.2 "Freya" Brings UEFI Fixes, Now Downloaded over 5.3 Million Times
The awesome guys from elementary announced a few minutes ago, December 10, 2015, the release and immediate availability for download of the elementary OS 0.3.2 “Freya” computer operating system.
According to the release announcement, elementary OS 0.3.2 “Freya” is here to improve the support for 64-bit UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) and SecureBoot systems, as well as machines running BIOS and Legacy Boot, which means that the infamous GRUB boot error has finally been patched.
“Just in time for the holidays, it’s a new release of elementary OS! Freya 0.3.2 is a minor release, mostly focused around solving some issues folks have had with UEFI & SecureBoot, but we’ve also managed to sneak in some internationalization updates and a couple new features,” said Daniel “DanRabbit” Foré from elementary.
The new, user-visible features
Among the new, user-visible features implemented in elementary OS 0.3.2 “Freya,” we can mention multiple updates to the Applications Menu, which now lists the Settings separately from the applications during searches. What’s more, it returns search results for actions from applications’ quicklists, such as Scratch’s “New Document” or Geary’s “Compose Message.”
Moreover, the Archive Manager and Font Viewer utilities were hidden from the Applications Menu, but users can access them via the Files file manager and the built-in search engine. Various minor visual issues related to dark applications have been fixed, along with refinements to panel’s and windows’ shadows.
The elementary developers also managed to add great improvements to the internationalization support in elementary OS, such as pluralization fixes, the ability to translate more of the operating system’s components, support for more languages in the installer, and the addition of 22 new language translations.
Existing elementary OS 0.3 “Freya” users can easily upgrade to version 0.3.2 just by running the Software Updater utility and applying all available updates. On the other hand, those of you new to elementary OS can download the elementary OS 0.3.2 “Freya” release right now via Softpedia or from the project’s website.
