Linux News Today: Latest Manjaro Linux Update Brings New Kernels, VirtualBox, Python, and Haskell
The time has come for Manjaro Linux users to prepare their computers for a new major update, the fourth for the stable Manjaro 15.09 (Bellatrix) operating system, due for release later today, October 26, 2015.
According to the Mr. Philip Müller, the lead developer and creator of Manjaro Linux, the new update contains updated kernels, among which we can mention Linux kernel 3.10.91 LTS, Linux kernel 126.96.36.199, Linux kernel 3.14.55 LTS, Linux kernel 188.8.131.52, Linux kernel 4.1.11 LTS, Linux kernel 4.2.4, and the recently released Linux kernel 4.3 RC (Release Candidate) 7.
Manjaro Update 2015-10-26 (stable) contains new versions of the Oracle VirtualBox virtualization software, as well as of the Python and Haskell programming languages. Moreover, the Octopi and Pamac graphical package managers received new releases as well, which bring all sorts of performance improvements.
“I’m happy to announce another review of Manjaro 15.09 (Bellatrix),” said Philip Müller. “It is always good to check for updated packages, even we don’t notify you about them. As usual people using our testing branch will help us to get snaps over to our stable branch almost smoothly.”
Synchronized with the Arch Linux software repos as of October 25, 2015
Thanks to this new stable update, Manjaro Linux 15.09 (Bellatrix) now supports the following kernels: Linux kernel 3.10.91 LTS, Linux kernel 3.12.48 LTS, Linux kernel 184.108.40.206, Linux kernel 3.14.55 LTS, Linux kernel 220.127.116.11, Linux kernel 3.18.22 LTS, Linux kernel 18.104.22.168, Linux kernel 4.1.11 LTS, Linux kernel 4.2.4, and Linux kernel 4.3 RC7.
All these kernel packages are available in the default software repositories of Manjaro Linux 15.09. Users are being informed by the Manjaro developers that the Linux 4.2.4 kernel is not recommended for AMD Radeon graphics cards, and Linux kernel 4.3 Release Candidate 7 should not be used on production machines.
As expected, Manjaro Linux 15.09 (Bellatrix) has been synchronized with the upstream Arch Linux software repositories as of October 25, 2015. All users are urged to update their systems as soon as the new Manjaro Update 2015-10-26 (stable) is available in the repos.
