Linux News Today: Linux Kernel 4.1.13 LTS Brings Many ARM, ARM64, GPU, and Wireless Improvements

A few minutes ago, Greg Kroah-Hartman informed users about the immediate availability for download of new kernel maintenance releases, Linux kernel 4.1.13 LTS, Linux kernel 4.2.6, Linux kernel 3.14.57 LTS, and Linux kernel 3.10.93 LTS.

In this article, we will take a look at the new features and improvements brought by the thirteenth point release of the Linux 4.1 LTS kernel, which, according to the appended shortlog, appears to be an important milestone for those who are running GNU/Linux distributions powered by a long-term supported kernel. In numbers, Linux kernel 4.1.13 LTS changes 124 files, with 644 insertions and 287 deletions.

“I’m announcing the release of the 4.1.13 kernel. All users of the 4.1 kernel series must upgrade,” says Greg Kroah-Hartman in the announcement. “The updated 4.1.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-4.1.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary.”

ARM/ARM64, Wireless, and GPU improvements

Among the changes, we can mention that Linux kernel 4.1.13 LTS brings numerous improvements to the ARM and ARM64 architectures, but also fixes a couple of issues for the x86 and PowerPC (PPC) platforms. Moreover, there’s a fix for a bug in the Btrfs file system, and a couple of mm and sound updates are also present.

Updates to the USB, SCSI, TTY, PINCTRL, PCI, IOMMU, DVB, MD-RAID, I2C, iiO, CPUFreq, EDAC, IRQ chip, networking (mostly wireless), and GPU (Radeon, Intel i915, Nouveau, and vmwgfx) drivers have also been added to Linux kernel 4.1.13 LTS, which you can download right now from Softpedia or via the kernel.org website. It is recommended that you update to the Linux kernel 4.1.13 LTS release on your GNU/Linux distribution as soon as possible.
