Linux News Today: Linux Mint 17.3 "Rosa" Beta with MATE 1.12 Screenshot Tour
We reported earlier about the immediate availability for download of the Beta build of the forthcoming Linux Mint 17.3 (Rosa) computer operating system, which is distributed as Cinnamon and MATE flavors.
As we stated in the respective article, there was no official announcement from the Linux Mint developers about the release of the Linux Mint 17.3 Beta Cinnamon and Linux Mint 17.3 Beta MATE editions at the moment of writing this quick and informative blog post.
However, the good news is that, if you’re reading this, you can starting downloading the Live ISO images with either the Cinnamon or MATE editions of the Linux Mint 17.3 Beta operating system, or both, ahead of the official announcement, when the servers will be very crowded.
Once again, we’ll take the opportunity to inform our readers about some of the new features that should land in the final release of the Linux Mint 17.3 “Rosa” distribution, which appears to be the last in the series, as the devs announced that the next release of the GNU/Linux operating system would be Linux Mint 18.
Therefore, Linux Mint 17.3 will still be based on the long-term supported Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) operating system, powered by its Linux 3.19 kernel, and featuring the latest versions of the MATE and Cinnamon desktop environments. The MATE edition is now built around the recently released MATE 1.12 desktop.

We’ve written a separate article for the Linux Mint 17.3 Beta Cinnamon Edition, where you’ll find an in-depth screenshot tour as well. Just please try to keep in mind that these are pre-release versions, not suitable for production use.
