Linux News Today: Linux Mint 17.3 "Rosa" KDE and Xfce Editions to Launch in January 2016

The developers of the Linux Mint project published earlier, December 12, their report for the month of November 2015, to inform all users of the popular GNU/Linux distribution about the work done in the last month, as well as about upcoming events.

As usual, the leader of the Linux Mint project, Clement Lefebvre, was the one to publish the report, informing us all that they are still have hardware and server issues that affected the software repositories of the Linux Mint and Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) operating systems.

Therefore, now that the Linux Mint 17.3 “Rosa” has been officially released with its Cinnamon and MATE editions, the Linux Mint developers will concentrate their efforts on server administration, data recovery, as well as any other hardware-related work that should soon stabilize the entire project.

“Since the website and forums went down, we’ve been hit by two new server issues. Two of our repository servers lost their hard drives. That’s a total of 3 servers going down in just a few weeks. This time around we had full backups though and we were able to minimize downtime,” said Clement Lefebvre.

Linux Mint 17.3 Xfce and KDE editions to arrive in January

In the second part of the monthly report, the Linux Mint devs talk about the upcoming events and work for the project. Therefore, we can report that the OEM and no-codecs ISO images of Linux Mint 17.3 “Rosa” will be released in the coming days, work on updating the LMDE 2 “Betsy” operating system should be resumed soon, and the KDE and Xfce editions of Linux Mint 17.3 will arrive sometime in January 2016.

In the end of the monthly report, the Linux Mint developers wish to thank to all those who contributed with donations, as well as to send their thanks to those who took the time to show their support in comments on the forums. At the end of December, or in early January, we shall have more news from the Linux Mint project, but until then, enjoy the Linux Mint 17.3 “Rosa” release.
