Linux News Today: Lubuntu 15.10 Might Be Ported to Raspberry Pi 2 Soon
We’ve just been informed by Mr. Martin Wimpress from the Ubuntu MATE project that he and his team are in talks with the Lubuntu Linux developers to port the operating system to the Raspberry Pi 2 single-board computer (SBC).
As you might now, the Ubuntu MATE 15.10 operating system, an official Ubuntu 15.10 flavor built around the MATE desktop environment, was officially released for Raspberry Pi 2 devices a couple of days ago, on October 22, 2015.
Now it would appear that for some reason not unveiled to us at the moment of writing this article, the Ubuntu MATE developers want to collaborate with the Lubuntu devs to port the distribution to Raspberry Pi 2 devices.
“I’m working with the Lubuntu team to bring Lubuntu 15.10 to the Raspberry Pi 2. This is an early test build,” said Martin Wimpress, the lead developer and maintainer of the Ubuntu MATE Linux operating system, on the official Twitter account of the project.
Lubuntu 15.10 distro was officially released as well on Thursday, October 22, along with the rest of the Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) flavors, and it is still based on the lightweight LXDE desktop environment, as reported by Softpedia on the release day.
As you can see from the screenshot attached on the right, the developers are already testing an early build of Lubuntu 15.10 with LXDE on the Raspberry Pi 2 SBC. More details will be available soon, but until then, let us know if you would like to see Lubuntu for Raspberry Pi 2.
