Linux News Today: Manjaro 15.09 Features Support for the Linux Kernel 4.3 Branch
The Manjaro developers are not wasting any time, as a third Release Candidate for the 15.09 branch of the operating system has been released and is now available for download and testing.
Manjaro is a Linux distribution based on Arch Linux, and its developers are following their own release model. Arch Linux is a rolling release, meaning that there are no versions and everything is pushed through the regular updates channels. Once a month, the Arch Linux ISO is regenerated with all the modifications that have been made in the meantime, and that’s pretty much it.
On the other hand, Manjaro has some intermediary versions, but really big changes and improvements are being made through regular update packs. It’s a little bit different from what everyone else is doing, but it has the added benefit of allowing developers to push new versions out the door at a much faster pace.
Third RC for Manjaro 15.09 is here
Before the developers release a new version of Manjaro, they launch a few RCs to make sure that there are no major issues. This third one is not as big as the previous, and it might mean that a more stable release is very close.
“It is time for our third release candidate of Manjaro 15.09. Only small adjustments were made. Most of our kernels got updated: 3.10.88, 3.12.48, 3.14.52, 4.1.7. We also added kernel 4.3-rc1 for early testing. However not all extramodules built for that kernel series yet. Octopi 0.7.2 got some needed fixes to improve its usability. Calamares is now at 1.1.3, which will be the last point release of that series, and we updated manjaro-tools to reflect our latest bugfixes and changes regarding EFI support,” write the developers.
They also explain that the latest Catalyst driver has been released, VirtualBox 5.0.4 has been added by default, and the Calamares installed is now at version 1.1.3.
You can download the Manjaro 15.09 RC3 right now from Softpedia. Please remember that it’s not stable, and users are not advised to install this on production machines.
