Linux News Today: Proxmox VE 4.0 Has Linux Containers Support, Based on Debian 8.2 Jessie – Video
Proxmox Server Solutions GmbH, through Martin Maurer, has had the great pleasure of announcing the final release of their commercial Proxmox VE (Virtual Environment) 4.0 operating system based on Debian GNU/Linux.
According to the official announcement, Proxmox VE (Virtual Environment) is now based on the latest Debian GNU/Linux 8.2 (Jessie) operating system, it is powered by the recently released Linux kernel 4.2, and comes with powerful new features, such as the integration of the Linux Containers (LXC) container solution.
Linux Containers (LXC) support has been fully integrated into Proxmox VE’s frameworks, which means that it now includes advanced storage plugins like ZFS (Z File System), Ceph, DRBD9, as well as complete IPv6 support. Best of all is that LXC works with all the latest Linux kernels branches.
Furthermore, Proxmox VE (Virtual Environment) 4.0 features advanced Bash completion, which has been implemented in all of the distribution’s command-line tools, an all-new Proxmox VE HA manager designed for High Availability clusters, which can drastically simplify HA setups, eliminating the need for external fencing devices.
“We are proud to announce the final release of our Proxmox VE 4.0 – based on the great Debian Jessie,” says Martin Maurer. “The new container solution for Proxmox VE is fully integrated into our frameworks, e.g. this includes our advanced storage plugins like ZFS, Ceph or even DRBD9, full IPv6 support and much more.”
Proxmox VE 3.x will still be supported until April 2016
While users of the Beta build of Proxmox VE 4.0 can update their installations to the final release without any problem, users of the Proxmox VE 3.x series are being informed that the branch will still be supported until April 2016. Additionally, you can install Proxmox VE 4.0 on top of a Debian GNU/Linux 8.x (Jessie) system.
