Linux News Today: The Dwarves, Superb Fantasy RPG from KING Art Games, to Get a Linux Launch
The Dwarves is a new fantasy RPG from the famous KING Art Games, who also brought us The Book of Unwritten Tales series, The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief, and Battle Worlds: Kronos. The studio is now looking to get enough money on Kickstarter for their new project.
KING Art Games has mostly worked on adventures titles, with the exception of Battle Worlds: Kronos, which was also a Kickstarter project. From the looks of it, they are now looking to expand their portfolio with a brazen RPG that promises a lot of things that haven’t been done before.
First of all, we don’t get a lot of games that have Dwarves (like the ones in the Tolkien universe) as main characters, but the guys and gals from KING Art Games seem to think that they are the coolest fantasy race, so they are building a game that revolves around them. It already looks incredibly good and it shows a lot of potential, making us wonder why nobody has thought about this before.
The Dwarves should arrive in June 2016
From what we’ve seen so far, a big part of the game is already done, which makes the June 2016 launch date a very reasonable one.
“We had the idea to make a game with epic battles between a handful of heroes and hundreds of enemies (think ‘Battle of Helm’s Deep’ in ‘The Lord of the Rings’) and combine these cool battles with a great story and a unique group of playable characters. The result is The Dwarves,” reads the Kickstarter entry.
To this effect, the makers of the game have developed a crowd combat system that keeps track of the mass, dimensions and momentum of individual characters that enables them to have realistic behavior on the battlefield.
The players will take the role of Tungdil, a dwarf that grew up among humans and that doesn’t know too much about his own race. Just like any other RPG, you start a journey across the world, and you will gather a party along the way. The game is based on the first novel of the international best-selling fantasy series by German author Markus Heitz.
The game is expected to arrive in June 2016, and Linux is a launch platform.
