Linux News Today: The Future of Divinity: Original Sin 2 Linux Port Is Uncertain
Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a new game from the Larian Studios and a sequel to the amazing Divinity – Original Sin that was released in 2014. The studio has just ended a new Kickstarter campaign, but they are not sure whether a Linux version will be released.
The first game, Divinity – Original Sin, was launched on the Linux platform and it’s currently one of the best of its kind for Linux users, so it’s only natural to hope that Larian Studios will be quick to port the second one as well, or at least to promise that it will. Well, that’s not going to happen anytime soon.
“Believe us, it’s not that we’re not interested in producing a version for Mac/Linux/Console, it’s just that we want to get the gameplay and world fleshed out in all the detail that it needs first. Once we have the game fully worked out, we’ll start looking at porting it to other platforms. That’s not something that’ll happen during the Kickstarter or indeed this year,” write the developers on the Kickstarter page.
The studio has managed to gather a little over $2 million and has gone through all of the stretch goals. Unfortunately, none of those goals included a Linux port. Since they said that it wouldn’t happen in 2015, we can only hope that 2016 will be a better year for Divinity: Original Sin 2 on Linux.
