Linux News Today: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) Will Be Released on April 21, 2016
We’ve reported earlier that you can download Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) daily build Live ISO images and that the development cycle of the upcoming operating system has started.
Apparently, most probably because it is an LTS (Long-Term Support) release, the Ubuntu developers have already published the release schedule of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus).
According to the official release schedule, the toolchain will be uploaded in two days from the moment of writing this article, on October 29, and the first Alpha build (only for opt-in flavors) will arrive on the last day of the year, December 31, 2015.
Then, the development cycle will continue with a second Alpha build on January 28, 2016, and the first Beta release should land on February 25. Both milestones will be available only for opt-in flavors.
We will be able to test the Final Beta build of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) on March 24, and the final release of the operating system should see the light of day on April 21, 2016.
Until then, you can download the daily build ISO images of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS for 64-bit and 32-bit systems right now from Softpedia. However, please do not install it on production machines.
Next week, between November 2-5, the UOS (Ubuntu Online Summit) event will take place, and all Ubuntu developers will be there to talk about the upcoming features that are about to be implemented in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus).
