Linux News Today: You Can Still Get a Free Dell Chromebook 11 from The Linux Foundation

We reported at the beginning of September 2015 that The Linux Foundation, a non-profit organization whose ultimate goal is to accelerate the growth of Linux among hardware companies, announced the expansion of their “Get a Free Chromebook” educational program until the end of the year.

Initially, the offer was supposed to last until September 30, 2015, at 11:59 p.m. PT (Pacific Time) or 6:59 a.m. GMT (Greenwich Mean Time), but The Linux Foundation decided that one month is not enough for students to enroll in their Linux Training courses and get one of those cool Chromebook computers manufactured by Dell (see below for technical specifications), on which they are allowed to install any GNU/Linux distribution they want.

“We want students of Linux to experience a Linux desktop and Chromebooks are a great way to do that – either through Google’s Linux-based OS or by installing one of the many Linux distros available,” said Jim Zemlin, executive director, The Linux Foundation. “We hope this offer can provide the freedom Linux developers and IT professionals value and spark new ideas and discoveries as they embark on our Linux training program.”

Dell Chromebook 11 technical specs

If you are curious to know the technical specifications of the Dell Chromebook 11 laptop, we can tell you that it boasts an Intel i3 processor running at 1.4 GHz, 4GB DDR3L RAM, 16GB SATA SSD storage, Dell Wireless 1901 802.11a/b/g/n connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, a 51WHr battery, and, of course, a gorgeous, crystal clear 11.6-inch display. As noted on Dell’s website, all Chromebooks come with a 1 Year Basic Hardware Service with 1 Year Mail-in Service.

So what are you waiting for?! If you want to learn Linux and get a free Chromebook computer, this is your chance. All you have to do is purchase any Linux Training course that is led by an instructor and scheduled between October 12, 2015, and December 31, 2015. Your Chromebook will be shipped by Dell approximately two weeks before the class starts, and remember that you are free to install any Linux OS on it.
