Officiall Codename for Ubuntu 15.10 is “Wily Werewolf”
Mark Shuttleworth has just announced the officiall codename of the Ubuntu 15.10, Wily Werewolf.
Shuttleworth announce it on the Ubuntu Online Summit keynote to make this one. What’s interesting about this particular name is the fact that it makes a full circle (almost) to the first Ubuntu release Ubuntu 4.10 (Warty Warthog), that dates back to October 2004.
Unlike other projects that used the community to find a name for the next release, in their case, the names were always chosen by Mark Shuttleworth. Most of the them used real animals as a source of inspiration, even if some users doubted that, but the Werewolf is not one of them. It actually follows Vivid Vervet and Utopic Unicorn, so it looks like the names are becoming more exotic as we’re getting closer to the letter A.
In fact, when Canonical started to release Ubuntu, it began with the letter W, but then it jumped to the letter B. The upcoming Ubuntu 16.04 LTS should have a name starting with the letter X, and that will probably be a real challenge.
In case you haven’t gotten it until now, Ubuntu 15.10 will be released this year, in October.
