Linux News Today: Arch Linux-Based Apricity OS Gets New Beta, Adds a Preview of GNOME 3.20
Softpedia has been informed today, March 29, 2016, by the Apricity OS developers about the immediate availability for download and testing of a new Beta, bringing this month’s security patches and software updates.
Apricity OS 03.2016 Beta appears to be a small update that includes only a few updated packages. The new ISO image brings an important security patch, as well as a preview of the recently released GNOME 3.20 desktop environment.
However, the good news we want to share with our readers today is that the Apricity OS team is preparing to unveil the first stable version of its Arch Linux-based operating system, which will ship by default with the final GNOME 3.20 release.
“This month we have also made significant improvements to the spam prevention system on the forum, which should save moderators quite a bit of work. As always, we hope that you will find this release to be easy and enjoyable to use,” say the devs in the email announcement.
Apricity OS Cinnamon Edition to be updated as well
Last month, we reported on the fact that Apricity OS released its second edition, with the Cinnamon desktop environment, and we had the great pleasure of taking an exclusive first look at Apricity OS Cinnamon Edition.
Right now, there’s no official date set for the final release of Apricity OS GNOME Edition, but you can download today’s Apricity OS 03.2016 Beta Live ISO image (available only for 64-bit systems) and take the distro for a test drive.
After the release of the main edition, with the GNOME 3.20 desktop, the Apricity OS developers will also update the Cinnamon Edition to be on par with the GNOME one. We will have more details in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
