Linux News Today: AV Linux 2016 Officially Released, a Debian OS Optimized for Audio Production

It looks like the AV Linux 2016 operating system for audio production has been released this past weekend, bringing a whole new set of tools and open-source software for low-latency audio production.

We reported on the AV Linux 2016 release back in January 2016 when the project’s developers have teased the Linux community with the availability of the first 2016 release of the Debian-based operating system, promising users a very stable and reliable distro for all of their audio and video production needs.

On March 26, 2016, the final version of AV Linux 2016 has been uploaded and made available to download, and it appears that it still comes with some of the most popular software projects for audio production, but it’s not as extensive out-of-the-box as it was in previous releases of the distribution.

“AVL 2016 is so completely different from it’s predecessor that I hesitate to call this an Alpha or Beta release,” the developer explained. “It is simply an ‘Initial’ release, and there will be much to be learned from it. I’m hoping as users you will be patient and tolerant as the new version finds it’s legs and I will be depending on your feedback and sharing your experiences to help others.”

AV Linux 2016 is compatible with the KXStudio’s repositories

Users who install AV Linux 2016 will be pleased to know that the Debian derivative is compatible with the software repositories of KXStudio, another GNU/Linux operating system targeted at audio and video production. So if you can’t find your favorite audio/video tools in the AV Linux repos, you’ll most certainly find them in the KXStudio ones.

Apparently, there’s now an AV Linux User Manual, which the project’s developers want you to read if you’re new to the audio/video production OS and you need any help getting started. In the meantime, you can download the 32-bit and 64-bit Live ISO images of AV Linux 2016 right now via our website and check the official release notes for the known issues and passwords used for the live session.
