Linux News Today: Calibre 2.55 eBook Viewer and Converter Adds New Rules, Settings, News Sources

Kovid Goyal, the developer of the open-source and cross-platform Calibre ebook library management software, has announced today, April 15, 2016, the release of the Calibre 2.55 update for all supported platforms.

Calibre 2.55 appears to be a fairly normal update with a little something for everyone. New features include the ability to create rules for converting random identifiers into links that the user can click on, via the Book details panel under Preferences -> Look & Feel, as well as the addition of a new rule type called “split,” which lets you quickly split tags on a certain character.

Continuing, Calibre 2.55 makes the “Shutting down” message an overlay to no longer bother users and adds the ability to right-click on the Virtual Library tabs to either edit or delete the respective virtual library from the application. Moreover, it implements a button in the Tag mapper component to let users easily edit a list of tags using the Tag Editor dialog.

Bug fixes, new and updated news sources

There are numerous bug fixes in Calibre 2.55, and among those who caught our attention, we can mention that the HTML align=center markup created by Microsoft Word now works on tables while support for text-transform has been implemented in the font subsetting feature. Then, no extra colons are being added during configuration of notes, and the application now prevents MathML and fallback content from appearing at the same time.

New news sources added to Calibre in version 2.55 are Kitekinto by pofa, and among those that have been updated, we can mention Brand Eins, Handelsblatt, tyzden, and Newsweek.
