Linux News Today: Chakra GNU/Linux Users Can Now Test KDE Plasma 5.7, Qt 5.7 & KDE Frameworks 5.24
The developers of the Chakra GNU/Linux rolling operating system are informing the community today, July 5, 2016, about the availability of the just released KDE Plasma 5.7.0 and Qt 5.7.0 in the testing repositories.
As we reported earlier today, the KDE project has had the great pleasure of announcing the release of the final KDE Plasma 5.7 desktop environment, which already landed in the testing repos of the Arch Linux operating system, as well as today’s KDE Neon 5.7 User Edition Live ISO images. Now Chakra GNU/Linux devs have uploaded the latest KDE Plasma 5.7 packages, along with Qt 5.7 on their testing repositories.
“You might have noticed that the brand new Plasma 5.7 and Qt 5.7.0 are now available in the testing repositories. A build of Frameworks 5.24.0 is also available,” said one of the Chakra GNU/Linux developers in the respective forum announcement. “We will probably wait for Plasma 5.7.1 and Applications 16.04.3, which are planned to be released in a week’s time, before moving all these into the stable repositories.”
KDE Plasma 5.7.1 will make its wait into the Chakra GNU/Linux repos
As a bonus, they’ve also included the upcoming KDE Frameworks 5.24.0 build, which is set to arrive this coming weekend. If you can’t wait to try the new KDE Plasma 5.7 desktop environment on your Chakra GNU/Linux system, go ahead and install it from the testing repos, but we recommend that you want until the developers test it thoroughly and release the builds to the stable channel.
We’ve already told you that most GNU/Linux operating system will choose to push the new KDE Plasma 5.7 packages to the stable repositories in the coming weeks, most probably after the KDE project announced the first point release, KDE Plasma 5.7.1, on July 12, 2016, along with the last maintenance release of the KDE Applications 16.04 series, version 16.04.3.
