Linux News Today: Debian-Based DebEX GNOME Linux OS Now Includes MATE 1.12.1 and GNOME 3.18.3
After announcing the release of a new build for his DebEX KDE GNU/Linux distribution, today, January 6, 2016, Arne Exton informs Softpedia about the immediate availability for download of DebEX GNOME Build 160105.
Based on the Debian GNU/Linux 9.0 “Stretch” (Testing) and Debian GNU/Linux Sid (Unstable) operating systems, DebEX GNOME Build 160105 is here to upgrade the desktop environments to the latest GNOME 3.18.3 and MATE 1.12.1 releases, as well as to rebase the OS on the latest stable and most advanced Linux 4.3 kernel.
“I have made a new extra version of DebEX, which I call DebEX Gnome Live DVD. It’s a pure Debian system using the testing (stretch) and unstable (sid) repositories. Two Desktop Environments are pre-installed. Gnome 3.18.3 – latest version – (Gothenburg) and Mate 1.12.1 (latest version),” says Arne Exton.
Comes pre-installed with Nvidia 352.63 graphics driver
In addition to the features mentioned above, DebEX GNOME Build 160105 comes pre-installed with the Nvidia 352.63 proprietary graphics driver, so you can fully enjoy the modern GNOME 3.18 desktop environment while running the distribution in live mode from either a USB flash drive or a DVD disc.
If you don’t have a Nvidia graphics card, you can switch to the MATE desktop environment, which is a clone of the old-school GNOME 2 interface. DebEX GNOME Build 160105 also includes the latest Google Chrome web browser, which lets users watch Netflix movies, and updates all the core components and apps to their latest versions as of January 5, 2016.
Another interesting option included in DebEX GNOME Build 160105 is the ability to run the operating system directly from RAM. The new functionality is available in the GRUB boot menu. Below we’ve attached a screenshot of each desktop environment included in the distribution. In the meantime, you can download DebEX GNOME Build 160105 right now from Softpedia.
