Linux News Today: Debian-Based Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (Mumble) Has Reached End of Life, Upgrade Now
The developers behind the Debian-based Parsix GNU/Linux distribution have officially ended support for the Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (Mumble) release, starting today, April 16 2016.
The end-of-life (EOL) announcement for the Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (Mumble) operating system, which was based on the Debian GNU/Linux 8.0 “Jessie” series, went live a month ago, in mid-March, when we’ve informed our readers to consider upgrading to the current stable, supported release of the distribution.
And now that Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (Mumble) has been marked with an EOL (End-of-Life) status, it means that it will no longer receive software updates, important bug fixes, nor critical security updates, so you have no choice but to upgrade to Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 (Atticus) as soon as possible.
The upgrade process should be painless and straightforward for all Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (Mumble) users, but please try to keep in mind that you need to make a backup of all your important documents and files before attempting to do a full system upgrade. Details on that can be found on the distribution’s homepage.
“We encourage everybody to upgrade their systems to Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5. If you are interested in keeping Mumble on your machines, please use Debian Jessie updates and security repositories. Parsix 8.0 is binary compatible with Debian Jessie,” the Parsix GNU/Linux developers have explained.
Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 coming later this year with GNOME 3.20
Please also note the fact that the software repositories will remain online for one more week, until April 22, 2016, to assist users with the upgrade process to Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 (Atticus), but if you still want to stay on Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (Mumble) and keep it updated, make sure you switch to the upstream Debian GNU/Linux 8.0 repos.
Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 (Atticus) is available for download now, but the operating system’s developers are currently working on the next major version, Parsix GNU/Linux 8.10 “Erik”, which promises to offer users the latest GNOME 3.20 desktop environment and Linux 4.4 LTS kernel.
Reminder: Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (Mumble) will reach EOL tomorrow. Upgrade your systems to 8.5 (Atticus) for continuous support. — Parsix GNU/Linux (@ParsixNews) April 15, 2016
