Linux News Today: Enlightenment 0.21 Desktop Environment Likely Brings More Wayland Improvements

The developers behind the lightweight, free, and open-source Enlightenment window manager/desktop environment have announced the release of the first Alpha build for Enlightenment 0.21.

Enlightenment 0.21.0 will be the next major upgrade to the popular desktop environment, which is currently used in many GNU/Linux operating systems, and it promises to add some very exiting new features and improvements.

For now, all we know is that Enlightenment 0.21 promises to add great improvements to the built-in support for the Wayland display server, implement a brand-new gadget infrastructure, improve the first-time wizard, and add video backgrounds.

And today, if you can’t wait until the final release gets out later this year, you can become an early adopter and take the Enlightenment 0.21.0 Alpha build for a test drive by downloading the sources right now via our website.

“After a little over 4 months and 500 commits, the E21 alpha release is ready for testing,” reads the release announcement for Enlightenment DR 0.21.0-alpha. “As always, stay tuned to the latest infrequent E updates here!”

More details about the upcoming features of Enlightenment 0.21.0 will be revelead in the coming weeks, as the development team will push new Alphas and Betas. In the meantime, they will be at the Enlightenment Developer Days 2016 conference.
