Linux News Today: Entroware's Orion Laptops Now Ship with Ubuntu MATE 16.04 LTS and Skylake CPUs
Entroware, one of the few hardware companies to offer laptops with Ubuntu MATE Linux operating system pre-installed, today announced a refresh of its Orion series of laptops.
The new Orion laptop is now in stock, and it looks like it comes with the next-generation of Intel Skylake processors, as well as the latest and greatest version of the Ubuntu MATE distro, Ubuntu MATE 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus).
As the Ubuntu MATE project leader, Martin Wimpress, informed us on the day of the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS launch, Ubuntu MATE 16.04 is the first official long-term supported release of the officially recognized Ubuntu flavor.
And now, Entroware, UK’s best dedicated supplier of Linux-powered desktop and laptop computers has made a big step forward to upgrade its line of Orion notebooks to the Ubuntu MATE 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system.
“Check out our refreshed Orion, now available with Skylake CPUs,” said Entroware in a brief Twitter announcement on April 27, 2016. And, the new line of laptops has been confirmed later by the Ubuntu MATE project, as you can see at the end of the article.
Entroware Orion technical specifications
Entroware’s refreshed Orion laptop comes with a starting price tag of £449.99 (€578 or $654), sporting an Intel Core i3 6100U running at 2.3GHz, 4GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM, 500GB HDD, Intel HD integrated graphics card, Intel AC-8260 Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet, a 14-inch matte Full HD (1920×1080) LED IPS display, and 1MP 720p webcam.
Users can choose between having the laptoped shipped with the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system or the Ubuntu MATE 16.04 LTS flavor, which features the lightweight and highly customizable MATE desktop environment. The Orion laptop also comes with a custom Ubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, or Entroware keyboard logo, and 1-year warrany.
