Linux News Today: Exton|OS Is an Untroublesome and Fast Linux Distro Based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Today, May 12, 2016, GNU/Linux developer Arne Exton informs us about the release and immediate availability of a new build of his Exton|OS Linux kernel-based computer operating system.
Powered by a recent kernel from the latest Linux 4.5 series, version 4.5.3, and based on the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system, Exton|OS Build 160512 is here to add the MATE 1.12.4 desktop environment, update various core components and applications, as well as to fix bugs that were present in the previous release.
“A new and much better version of Exton|OS is ready. I have replaced kernel 4.2.0-16-exton with kernel 4.5.3-exton. With kernel 4.5 there is no real need to use Nvidia proprietary graphic drivers since this kernel has better support for the open-source Nvidia driver Nouveau than any other older kernel,” said Arne Exton.
Also based on Debian Stretch and Sid
Exton|OS is an Ubuntu-based operating system, but it also borrows various elements from the Debian GNU/Linux 9 “Stretch” and Debian Sid repositories. The new Exton|OS build has been designed to run from RAM, as it features a new “Copy to RAM” boot option (you will need to have at least 2 GB of memory to use this option).
The operating system now ships with the Exton|OS Installer, which is a fork of the Debian Live Installer, Wicd to configure your network connection, LightDM as the default login manager, as well as numerous other updated components that you can view in the full package list compiled by the developer.
As usual, existing Exton|OS users need not download anything except updates to keep their installation up to date at all times. However, if you’re new to this GNU/Linux distribution and you want to try it, go ahead and download the Exton|OS Build 160512 64-bit Live ISO image from our website.
