Linux News Today: KDE Frameworks 5.20.0 Released with Numerous Plasma Framework Improvements
The KDE developers announced this past weekend the major KDE Frameworks 5.20.0 release, which now includes a total of 70 add-on libraries to the Qt technology.
KDE Frameworks 5.20.0 is part of a series of planned monthly releases of the innovation that lets KDE developers port their KDE4 applications to the Qt 5 and KF5 technologies, bringing improvements and bugfixes, as well as add various new features.
New KDE Frameworks 5 maintenance releases happen on the second Saturday or Sunday of every month, and KDE Frameworks 5.20.0 was seeded to the official channels on March 13, 2016, for the latest KDE Plasma 5.5.5 desktop environment and KDE Applications 15.12.2 software suite.
“KDE today announces the release of KDE Frameworks 5.20.0,” reads the release notes. “KDE Frameworks are 70 addon libraries to Qt which provide a wide variety of commonly needed functionality in mature, peer reviewed and well tested libraries with friendly licensing terms. What’s new in KDE Frameworks 5.20.0
The changelog of the KDE Frameworks 5.20.0 release is huge, bringing over 130 improvements to many areas, including Plasma Framework, KWallet Framework, KActivities, KTextEditor, KAuth, KCoreAddons, KHTML, KInit, KIO, Sonnet, KWindowSystem, KDocTools, KConfig, KI18n, KJS, KService, and KNewStuff.
Additionally, the KXMLGUI, KItemModels, KIconThemes, KDED, KDeclarative, KFileMetaData, KPeople, Package Framework, and Framework Integration areas received improvements as well. The KDELibs 4 support was also enhanced, and the Breeze Icon pack got a bunch of new icons.
The full source code for the KDE Frameworks 5.20.0 can be downloaded right now via our website, and you can find binary packages for popular GNU/Linux distributions, like Kubuntu, Arch Linux, Fedora, openSUSE Tumbleweed, Gentoo Linux, Mageia, and ROSA on the project’s website.
The KDE Frameworks 5.21.0 maintenance release will be available next month, around April 10.
