Linux News Today: KDE Plasma 5.5.5 Desktop Environment Just Landed for Chakra GNU/Linux Users

Neofytos Kolokotronis of the Chakra GNU/Linux operating system has just informed users on the project’s official Twitter account that the recently released KDE Plasma 5.5.5 desktop environment arrived in the default software repositories.

KDE Plasma 5.5.5 is the fifth and last maintenance build in the Plasma 5.5 series of the acclaimed, open-source desktop environment used in numerous Linux kernel-based operating systems, and Chakra GNU/Linux users are lucky enough to get the bugfix release today, March 6, 2016.

“The 5th and final update for KDE’s Plasma 5.5.x series is now available to all Chakra users, in anticipation of 5.6 which is expected to be released in a couple of weeks,” said Neofytos Kolokotronis in the brief announcement. “It should be safe to answer yes to any replacement question by Pacman.”

Chakra GNU/Linux is a Linux distribution originally based on the lightweight and highly customizable Arch Linux operating system and focused on the latest KDE technologies, which means that if you love the KDE desktop environment, and you want to have the newest releases of it, always, you need to use Chakra.

KDE Plasma 5.6 coming up next

Of course, Chakra GNU/Linux is not the only operating system to offer users the latest KDE Plasma 5 packages, but it is actively maintained and quite reliable, and with this occasion, we would like to inform Chakra users that they can fire up the default package manager and update to KDE Plasma 5.5.5 right now.

The next upgrade for the KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment will be the major 5.6 release, which is already in the Beta stages of development and will see an official launch later this month. Chakra GNU/Linux users will be, as expected, among the first to receive the KDE Plasma 5.6 upgrade.
