Linux News Today: Mir 0.20 Display Server for Ubuntu Touch Arrives with Miracast Improvements

We reported the other day that the OTA-9.1 hotfix update for Ubuntu Phone was finally coming this Thursday, February 24, 2016, as a phased update for all supported Ubuntu Phone devices.

And from the looks of it, it’s on its way, as Łukasz Zemczak of Canonical informs us just a few moments ago that they have received green light for the OTA-9.1 software update, which promises to patch the infamous incoming call issue reported by numerous Ubuntu Phone users, as well as the recent Glibc vulnerability.

“Some good news today! First of all: we seem to have a green light regarding OTA-9.1,” said Łukasz Zemczak, Canonical Foundations. “We will be preparing the release first thing tomorrow around UTC morning – we’ll, of course, be phasing the update over the usual period, so that all users should see the updates on before Thursday.”

Therefore, starting tomorrow, February 24, some of you will receive the OTA-9.1 update on your Ubuntu Phones, so make sure that you apply it as soon as possible. As usual, the device will be rebooted for the update to be installed correctly. Those of you who won’t get the OTA-9.1 update on February 24, will have to check again for updates the next day, February 25.

OTA-10 coming this Spring to Ubuntu Phones and Tablets

In related news, Mr. Zemczak informs those interested in the development progress of the next major OTA update, the OTA-10, that despite the busy week at MWC 2016, the Ubuntu Touch developers are also working on pushing new features to Ubuntu Phones and Tablets.

Therefore, the day of February 24, 2016, saw the release of the Mir 0.20 display server, a major milestone that brings tons of enhancements and bug fixes, as well as updates to the Ubuntu System Settings, Indicator Location, Media Hub, and QtUbuntu Media components.

The OTA-10 update should be released at the end of March 2016.
