The developers of the NAS4Free open-source and free embedded storage BSD-based distribution for GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and other UNIX-like systems, announced the release of NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.
Based on the FreeBSD 10.3 operating system, NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2853 adds numerous new features and updates lots of core components. Release highlights include the implementation of a search function to Diagnostics|Log, support for deleting multiple items at once in the snapshots page and other pages, as well as the ability to set or change the UPS monitoring credentials.
Other features include full GUID Partition Table (GPT) support in the installer, support for a second UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) system, refactoring of many parts of the WebGUI, the implementation of an option to configure the tls_certcheck parameter for checking Transport Layer Security (TLS) certificates, and support for configuring the sshd Challenge-Response Authentication.
“HAST (Highly Available Storage) is still experimental in the WebGUI. You need CLI for some tasks. To evaluate HAST, you need two of the same configured NAS4Free servers. Currently, iSCSI, CIFS, NFS, GPTUFS and ZFS on HAST is supported. For master node of WebGUI, carp advskew is assumed as 0 or 1,” reads today’s release announcement of NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2853.
