Linux News Today: Parrot Security OS 3.0 "Lithium" Is a Linux Distro for Cryptography & Anonymity
A few days ago, Parrot Security OS developer Frozenbox Network teased users on Twitter with the upcoming release of the long anticipated Parrot Security OS 3.0 “Lithium” distribution.
Based on the latest Debian GNU/Linux technologies and borrowing many of the packages from the Debian 8 “Jessie” stable repositories, Parrot Security OS 3.0 just received new Release Candidate (RC) ISO builds that users can now download and install on their personal computer if they want to get an early taste of what’s coming.
For those who are not in the known, Parrot Security OS is a cloud-friendly computer operating system, a penetration testing GNU/Linux distribution based on Debian Linux and designed to be used in various computer forensic, cryptography, anonymity, reverse engineering, cloud pentesting, privacy, and hacking operations.
Parrot Security OS 3.0 “Lithium” to offer six editions
Users of previous Parrot Security OS releases (the latest stable build is now version 2.2.1), know by now that the penetration testing distro is distributed as Cloud, Full, and Standard editions, for both 64-bit and 32-bit platforms, but it looks like the upcoming release is preparing three more flavors.
The new Parrot Security OS 3.0 “Lithium” editions are Libre, which should only include libre software that are 100% free, LXDE, built, of course, around the Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment, and Studio, whose uniqueness hasn’t yet been revealed by the developers.
What we know right now is that Parrot Security OS 3.0 is coming soon based on a hardened Linux 4.5 kernel, offering hundreds of tools for privacy, cryptography, information gathering, vulnerability assessment, Web Apps and Database analysis, system exploitation, maintaining access, and password attacks.
The distro also includes some of the best tools for Wireless testing, sniffing and spoofing, digital forensics, reverse engineering, mobile hacking, and reporting, all on top of the MATE 1.12.1 desktop environment. Download the Parrot Security OS 3.0 “Lithium” Release Candidate ISO images and take them for a test drive right now, and check out the gallery below to see the OS in action.
