Linux News Today: Simplicity Linux 16.04 Alpha 2 Now Ready for Testing

Simplicity Linux 16.04 is a Linux distribution based on LXPup, which uses the LXDE desktop. The second Alpha version in the new series has been released and is now ready for testing.

Simplicity Linux has been around for quite some time, and it’s somewhat different from all of the rest in several aspects. First of all, it’s one of the few Linux distros that are using LXPup as their base, and at least this hasn’t changed.

Secondly, the developer makes different editions of the same distro, for various uses. Users can choose to get a light version that takes very little space, a full version that’s much bigger from the start, and another blend that’s pretty much an experimentation ground.

Simplicity Linux 16.04 Alpha 2 has arrived

A really big update for Simplicity Linux, the 16.01 release, was made available in February, and the project celebrated its 7th birthday. It looks like the devs have been quite busy, and they are quickly moving to the next iteration.

“Simplicity Linux 16.04 Alpha releases are now available. In this release, we have decided to change the name our trusty Simplicity Linux Netbook Edition to Mini. We feel that this new name more accurately reflects this edition. We’d love to know what you think about the change,” developers said.

The three Simplicity Linux flavor are Mini, Desktop Edition, and X. Mini has the smallest footprint, the Desktop edition comes with most of the major apps already installed, and X is a version that’s more friendly to people moving from Windows to a Linux environment.

You can download Simplicity Linux 16.04 Alpha 2 right now from Softpedia. If you want to run this latest version, you should consider doing it in a virtual environment, like VirtualBox, for example. Also, keep in mind that it’s not a stable edition, and it shouldn’t be used in production machines.
