Linux News Today: SuperTuxKart 0.9.2 to Add New Tracks, Let Players Record Races and Ghost Replays
Earlier today, June 16, 2016, the developers of the SuperTuxKart open-source racing game featuring Tux, the virtual Linux mascot, have announced the availability of the first Release Candidate (RC) build of the upcoming SuperTuxKart 0.9.2 update.
It has been more exactly eight months since we last heard something from the SuperTuxKart devs, when the released the SuperTuxKart 0.9.1 massive update back on October 17, 2015, but it looks like they’ve not been idle all this time, and the upcoming SuperTuxKart 0.9.2 point release promises fresh new features.
“It’s already been several months since the last release of SuperTuxKart, but we have not been idle! The next release, 0.9.2 is coming soon and we are today releasing the first release candidate. Please help us test this new release to make sure that everything works correctly,” said the devs in today’s announcement.
Here’s what’s coming to SuperTuxKart 0.9.2
If you’re wondering what’s new features will be implemented in SuperTuxKart 0.9.2, we can tell you that you’ll (finally?) be able to record races and ghost replays, but only those that you can beat, the implementation of an AI (Artificial Intelligence) for the 3 strikes battle and soccer modes, and beautiful new TTF fonts.
The new AI mentioned above will let players play the aforementioned battle and modes in single player, for the first time ever, as well as in multiplayer mode but with more karts now. Also new in SuperTuxKart 0.9.2 is the “Antediluvian Abyss” track, the “Volcan Island” track, and an icy soccer field.
A new original song for the Farm track will be available as well. However, it appears that after much hard work, the LAN multiplayer feature is not gonna make it in the SuperTuxKart 0.9.2 release.
