Linux News Today: Ubuntu Touch OTA-10 to Add uNav GPS Navigator and Dekko Email Client by Default
Canonical’s Łukasz Zemczak has just informed the Ubuntu community about a few significant changes that the upcoming OTA-10 update for the Ubuntu mobile OS will add.
First off, we will take this opportunity to remind you that the Ubuntu Touch OTA-10 software update is the first of its kind to add support for Canonical’s first ever Ubuntu-powered tablet device, the BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition, which received the “Frieza” codename from the Ubuntu devs.
Second, the OTA-10 update is currently scheduled for release sometime in the first week of April 2016 for all supported Ubuntu Phone devices, and will enter its feature and string freeze stage later today, March 11, 2016, which means that no other major changes will happen.
And now for today’s news, according to Łukasz Zemczak, Canonical Foundations, the Ubuntu Touch OTA-10 comes with at least two new core apps, the well-known uNav GPS navigator created by Marcos Costales, and the awesome Dekko email client designed by Daniel Wood. A Calendar app might also be included by default.
“With the nearest images we will also be including a few new apps by default in our images: uNav, Dekko and eventually – calendar-app,” said Łukasz Zemczak. “Most of you probably, like me, have those installed already so there will be no visible change here, but it’s good to know those will be added to our official batch of core-apps.”
This being said, we can’t wait for the OTA-10 software update to be released in April, which will replace the OTA-9.1 hotfix. Next week, we shall have more details about it, as well as an official release date for Ubuntu Touch OTA-10.
