Linux News Today: Xubuntu 16.04 LTS Default Wallpapers Revealed Ahead of the April 21 Launch
The Xubuntu team has announced earlier the winners of the Xubuntu 16.04 wallpaper contest that took place over the last few weeks, which basically means that they’ve revealed the default wallpapers for the Xenial release.
In order of appearance, the new default Xubuntu 16.04 LTS wallpapers are: Kinkaku Ji by Elizabeth K.Joseph, Mountainous View by Sven Scheuermeier, My Nut by bluesabreWife, The Sky Is The Limit by Kaushik Panchal, (three) Untitled by Mike Sinko, Untitled by Aaron Burden, Untitled by Troy Jarrell, and Yellow Jacket by Manuel Frei.
“Before we go into the results, we want to thank everyone who contributed to the competition! In total we had 92 submissions, which is over 10% more than for the 14.04 competition. Great work!” reads the announcement. “While we originally announced that we would be picking 6 winners, we eventually decided to pick a total of 10 winners.”
Xubuntu 16.04 will be an LTS release supported for three years
As you probably are already aware, the highly anticipated Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system is launching in two days at the moment of writing this article, on Thursday, April 21, 2016, along with all of its official flavors, among which there’s the lightweight Xubuntu Linux distribution.
Xubuntu 16.04 will also be an LTS (Long Term Support) release, but it will follow the short-LTS cycle, which means that users will receive software updates and security patches for a period of three years from its April 21, 2016 launch, as confirmed by project maintainer Simon Steinbeiss.
