4MLinux developer Zbigniew Konojacki has just informed Softpedia today, July 1, 2016, about the immediate availability for download of the final release of the 4MLinux 18.0 operating system.
4MLinux 18.0 has been in development for the past two months, during which time the developer has released a single Beta build to public testers, but he has also managed to introduce new versions based on 4MLinux 18.0 for all the other flavors under the 4MLinux umbrella.
Powered by Linux kernel 4.4.8 LTS, 4MLinux 18.0 has been declared stable and ready to become your daily driver. It comes with a lot of goodies for fans of the open source ecosystem, among which we can mention support for installing the LibreOffice 5.2 office suite and GIMP 2.8.16 image editor.
Additional applications include the Mozilla Firefox 47.0 and Chromium 51.0.2704.79 web browsers, Mozilla Thunderbird 45.1.1 email and news client, Audacious 3.7.2 and aTunes 3.1.2 music players, Skype 18.104.22.168 VoIP client, as well as VLC Media Player 2.2.4 and MPlayer SVN-r37852 video players.
“4MLinux 18.0 is the first release offering GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP 2.8.16) as a downloadable extension. Additionally, support for the DjVu image format (via DjVuLibre and qpdfview) is now available out of the box,” says Zbigniew Konojacki in today’s release announcement.
The 4MLinux LAMP Server components have been updated as well
Also new in 4MLinux 18.0 is the fact that most of the components that allow you to install and set up a full-featured LAMP (Linux, Apache, MariaDB and PHP) server have been updated to the latest version available at the moment of the release, including Apache 2.4.20, MariaDB 10.1.14, PHP 5.6.22, Perl 5.22.1, and Python 2.7.11.
Last but not least, 4MLinux 18.0 comes with support for playing games, as it includes the latest video drivers for Radeon, Nvidia, and Intel graphics cards, thanks to the implementation of the Mesa 11.2.1 3D Graphics Library and X.Org 1.18.3 display server.
