Linux News Today: Calibre 2.39 eBook Reader and Converter Supports the Latest Kobo Firmware

Posted on September 25, 2015 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

Just a few minutes ago, on September 25, Kovid Goyal released version 2.39 of his popular and widely used Calibre ebook library management, converter, and reader software for GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows, and Mac OS X operating systems.

According to the release notes, attached at the end of the article for reference, Calibre 2.39 adds support for the latest 3.18 firmware for Kobo ebook readers, adds the ability to create simple rules for filtering or transforming tags during downloading of metadata or importing new books, and implements a new setting that lets users control the size of the toolbar's icons.

There are also several bugfixes in the new Calibre release, most of them reported by users since the previous version of the app. Among these, we can mention a workaround for GNU/Linux systems that have a non-functional xdg-open implementation, supporting unquoting of URLs before they're passed to external apps, and various minor fixes to the Edit Book, CBZ metadata, Get Books, HTMLZ Output, and Content Server components.

Last but not least, the Calibre 2.39 sees the addition of various new Korean news sources, along with the GermanĀ  Presseportal DE news source. The TIME Magazine, Instapaper, The Atlantic, and Trouw have been improved.
