Linux News Today: Containers Become a First-Class Citizen in Ubuntu 16.04, Says Mark Shuttleworth

Posted on January 29, 2016 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

It seems like a whole lot of Mark Shuttleworth interviews are starting to pile up these days, and today we would like to inform our readers about a recent one, where the Ubuntu founder talks about the latest cloud technologies coming from Canonical.

The interview was recorded for a WIRED event hosted by IBM LinuxONE, and Mark Shuttleworth talks with Jim Daly, WIRED Brand Lab Contributing Editor, about how Ubuntu Linux took the cloud by storm, as well as what the Ubuntu community is preparing for the upcoming Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system.

The three-minute-long interview starts with Mark Shuttleworth praising Ubuntu as the world's favorite platform for cloud-oriented development across enterprises, startups, as well as both the private and public cloud. Ubuntu Linux is also the platform of choice for devs who want to build new infrastructures, according to Mr. Shuttleworth.

When asked by Jim Daly about the new capabilities that will be implemented by Canonical in the upcoming Ubuntu 16.04 LTS operating system, Mark Shuttleworth responds that containers will become a first-class citizen in the Xenial Xerus release, allowing users to run thousands of containers on the cloud or on IBM's LinuxONE computer.

In the rest of the interview, which you can watch at a glance below, Mark Shuttleworth discusses the future of Ubuntu Linux and what technologies will be implemented in the years to come. Don't forget to also watch yesterday's video interview with Mr. Shuttleworth, where he talks about Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and Snappy.
