Today, January 9, 2016, we've been informed by Arne Exton about the release and immediate availability for download of his DebEX Barebone Build 160109 GNU/Linux distribution.
Based on the latest technologies from both Debian Sid (Unstable) and Debian 9.0 "Stretch" (Testing) repositories as of January 9, 2016, the DebEX Barebone Build 160109 operating system comes now with the latest Linux 4.3.3 kernel (4.3.0-5-exton), Nvidia 352.63 proprietary graphics driver, the Google Chrome web browser for those who want to watch Netflix movies, and the lightweight Xfce 4.12 desktop environment.
"I have installed Nvidia’s proprietary graphics driver 352.63. All packages have been updated to the latest version as of January 9, 2016. DebEX Barebone is now based on Debian testing - Stretch - (upcoming Debian 9) and Debian unstable - Sid. I have now installed Google Chrome to make it possible to watch Netflix movies," said Arne Exton in an email to Softpedia.
Three DebEX editions
The announcement of DebEX Barebone Build 160109 comes four days after Arne Exton informed us about the general availability of the DebEX GNOME Build 160105 and DebEX KDE Build 160102 operating systems. The DebEX series of Debian-based GNU/Linux distributions now contains three editions, all of them being powered by Linux kernel 4.3.
However, being built on top of the Debian Testing and Debian Unstable repos, the DebEX editions might not be ready for production use. Arne Exton urges users who install his distros to report if they find any issues or if the system crashes often. The developer also informs us that all three DebEX editions can now run directly from RAM (the option has been implemented in the bootloader).
