Linux News Today: Firefox 44.0.2 Arrives in All Supported Ubuntu OSes

Posted on February 12, 2016 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

Canonical has just announced that the latest version of the Firefox Internet browser has just landed for Ubuntu 15.10, Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

Just a day after the official launch of Firefox 44.0.2, this version has also landed in the Ubuntu repositories. This is really good news for the Ubuntu users and it's nice to see that the distribution is once more among the first to adopt this new package.

"Jason Pang discovered that service workers intercept responses to plugin network requests made through the browser. An attacker could potentially exploit this to bypass same origin restrictions using the Flash plugin," the security update reads.

This latest update for Firefox is not an impressive one, but for more details about changes, you should check out initial report. To get this, you can simply run the Update Manager application, but you can also use the terminal (root is needed).

Open a terminal and enter the following commands (you will need to be root and you will need Internet access):

code
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

It’s possible that the upgrade process will bring other packages, so be patient. Please keep in mind that you will have to restart the application in order to complete the updating process. You can also download the Mozilla Firefox 44.0.2 package from Softpedia, but this is not an installable version.
