The GTK+ developers have announced the release and immediate availability for download and testing of the fourth development milestone towards the GTK+ 3.20 GUI toolkit for the upcoming GNOME 3.20 desktop environment.
According to the internal changelog, which we’ve attached at the end of the article for reference, GTK+ 3.19.4 is here to fix over 20 issues reported by users or discovered by the project’s developers since the previous development milestone, GTK+ 3.19.3, which was released last week as part of the GNOME 3.19.3 desktop environment.
Among the most interesting changes implemented in GTK+ 3.19.4, we can mention memory leak, DND, clipboard, as well as window sizing and positioning fixes for the next-generation Wayland display server, which now has a new build dependency, the Wayland-protocols package.
It is now possible to instruct the GtkPopover widget to remain within the top-level window on platforms that do not support this functionality, such as Wayland. GTK+ 3.19.4 comes with more CSS changes, such as the addition of the -gtk-icontheme and -gtk-icon-palette properties, the latter being used for recoloring symbolic icons.
Moreover, the -gtk-image-effect property has been renamed to -gtk-icon-effect, the new :dnd pseudoclass is now used for the drag highlighting functionality, and the :checked pseudoclass is now used for active spinners instead of the :active one.
Lots of DND improvements
In addition to the changes mentioned above, GTK+ 3.19.4 comes with lots of DND improvements, among which we can notice theming support for the drag highlighting feature, support for using non-top-level widgets as drag ones, removal of support for RGBA cursors for the drag icons, and Wayland support for drag windows.
Those of you who will attempt to take this version for a test drive, can download the GTK+ sources right now from our website and start compiling it by hand. However, please try to keep in mind that this is pre-release software, not suitable for use in production environments where stability is of the essence.
