The Document Foundation has just announced that two new versions of the LibreOffice, 5.0.3 ‘Fresh’ and 4.4.6 ‘still’ have been released and are now available for download.
The developers from The Document Foundation have a few supported branches of the office suite, and they are aimed at various users. The latest and the most advanced version, 5.0.3, is for people who like to try all that’s new, and they don’t mind all the shiny features.
On the other hand, LibreOffice is also used in city administrations, and other enterprise settings and those users don’t usually want things to change. It’s customary to wait until a LibreOffice stable branch becomes more mature before being adopted in such circumstances.
Both of these releases only come with fixes, and they must be considered just maintenance, although users have been advised to upgrade their installation as soon as possible.
Even if you don’t get new features, the developers put a lot of work into these maintenance versions, and they do repair many of the problems spotted by the community.
LibreOffice 5.0.3 and 4.4.6 now available for download
“The Document Foundation announces LibreOffice 5.0.3 ‘fresh’, the 4rd release of the LibreOffice 5.0 family, and LibreOffice 4.4.6, the 7th release of the LibreOffice 4.4 family. So far, the LibreOffice 5.0 family is the most popular LibreOffice ever, based on feedback from journalists and end users. LibreOffice 5.0.3 is more feature-rich, and as such is targeted to tech enthusiasts and power users, and LibreOffice 4.4.6 is targeted to more conservative users and enterprise deployments as it has been in widespread use for a longer time, and as such offers a better experience for document production,” reads the announcement.
Users can download both of these LibreOffice builds from Softpedia, but it’s also very likely that if you have them installed already, the updates will also land in the respective repositories.
