Earlier today, December 30, 2015, Stephen Ewen was very happy and proud to announce the release and immediate availability for download of the UberStudent 4.3 computer operating system.

Based on the Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS (Trusty Tahr) operating system and built around the lightweight Xfce 4.12 desktop environment, UberStudent 4.3 is dubbed Heraclitus and brings many new features, updates to most of the core components and applications, dozens of under-the-hood improvements, enhancements to the in-house built collection ot administrative utitilies, better language support, and numerous fixes for some of the most annoying issues.

Powered by Linux kernel 4.2

UberStudent 4.3 "Heraclitus" is powered by Linux kernel 4.2.0, which is now maintained by Canonical for a few more years, which means that users will get full support for the latest hardware components and don't need to worry about running an operating system with obsolete kernel packages that do not contain the latest security patches. Moreover, UberStudent 4.3 comes with an updated graphics stack based on X.Org Server 1.17 and Mesa 10.5.9.

The LibreOffice office suite was also updated to the latest and most advanced version, LibreOffice 5. Existing UberStudent users are being informed by the project's developers that they can now upgrade to UberStudent 4.3 using the Update Manager utility. However, if you want to run a new graphics stack backported from Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf), it is recommended that you upgrade from the ISO image, which you can download right now from Softpedia.

For those of you who are not in the loop, we would like to inform them that the UberStudent operating system is a GNU/Linux distribution designed for everyone, but targeted at higher education and college-bound secondary students, as well as teachers.
