Linux News Today: Ubuntu Touch Devs to Concentrate More on the Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial Xerus) Branches

Posted on November 24, 2015 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

Today, November 24, Canonical's Łukasz Zemczak sent in his daily report for the day of November 23, informing us all about the latest work done by the Ubuntu Touch developers for the mobile operating system used on Ubuntu Phones.

According to Mr. Zemczak, the Ubuntu Touch developers have prepared new and improved versions of the Telephony-Ofono and Telephony-Service packages, as well as the Messaging, Dialer, and Address Book apps, which will land for the upcoming OTA-9 software update next year.

"Stable development pace so far! We have also prepared some seed changes, adding a new framework to rc-proposed that will be made available in OTA-9," said Łukasz Zemczak. "It seems devel-proposed is bootable again but current still in a very unusable state. We need to start putting more pressure on our xenial branches."

As noted by Mr. Łukasz Zemczak in his report, the Ubuntu Touch developers need to concentrate more on implementing new features and porting the mobile operating system to the next major release of Ubuntu Linux, the Xenial Xerus (a.k.a. Ubuntu 16.04 LTS). The Xenial branches for Ubuntu Touch will soon be available for testing.

In the meantime, they are also working hard to fix known bugs for Ubuntu Touch and prepare the OTA-9 software update for lunch on January 20, 2016, when everybody comes back from winter holidays. We will keep you informed with the latest developments as soon as we know more.
