After we reported a few days ago that the Linux Mint devs promise exciting features for the GNU/Linux operating system, earlier today, January 6, 2016, Clement Lefebvre drop the news that all Linux Mint 17 users can now upgrade to the recent Linux Mint 17.3 computer operating system, no matter the edition used.
Therefore, we would like to inform our Linux Mint readers that if they're using any of the official Linux Mint 17, Linux Mint 17.1 or Linux Mint 17.2 flavors, including Cinnamon, MATE, KDE and Xfce, they can now upgrade to the Linux Mint 17.3 operating system by following the instructions posted below.
"The upgrade path from Linux Mint 17, 17.1 and 17.2 to Linux Mint 17.3 is now open for all editions (Cinnamon, MATE, KDE and Xfce)," said Clement Lefebvre, leader of the Linux Mint Project. "Instructions on how to perform this upgrade are available at http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2955."
Here's who to upgrade to Linux Mint 17.3
If you're using one of the Linux Mint editions mentioned above, and you want to upgrade it to the Linux Mint 17.3 "Rosa" operating system, you will need to fire up the Update Manager utility, click on the "Refresh" button and wait for the application to display available updates for the mintupdate and mint-upgrade-info packages.
If you see the updates, apply them. After the mintupdate and mint-upgrade-info packages have been updated, you need to launch the System Upgrade tool by going to the Edit menu and selecting the "Upgrade to Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa" options from the drop-down list.
When the System Upgrade tool appears, follow the instructions displayed on the screen to upgrade your current Linux Mint installation to Linux Mint 17.3 "Rosa" operating system. The upgrade process will take a while depending on your computer's specs and Internet connection. After the upgrade, reboot your computer.
