Linux News Today: Steam for Linux Has Just Passed the 1,900 Mark for Linux and SteamOS Games - Updated

Posted on January 29, 2016 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

You won't believe this (we don't believe it either), but there are now over 1,900 games available for the Linux and SteamOS platforms on Valve's Steam gaming distribution platform.

Why don't we believe it? Because only a week ago we wrote an article about Steam for Linux just passing the 1,800 mark for SteamOS and Linux games. On January 21, 2016, there were exactly 1,801 titles when browsing Steam's game catalogue with the SteamOS + Linux filter active.

Only seven days later, the Steam for Linux catalogue shows that there are 1,913 titles available for Linux and SteamOS gamers to play, and we have proof of that (check the attached screenshot below). So, in other words, game developers published over 110 games in a single week?

It's a little hard to believe, but hey, they're more than welcome. Linux gamers must be extremely happy to hear this news in such a short period, and we do hope that the Steam for Linux usage will considerably grow in 2016, passing that 1% hunting the platform for a long time now.

What else can we say? We're shocked too, so go ahead and check that for yourselves if you don't believe us, and more importantly, buy and play some awesome games on your Linux box because now you have close to 2,000 titles, and it's amazing. Happy weekend!

Update: Some users reported that there might not be 1,912 games available for SteamOS and Linux, so after checking the Steam database on the web (with and without being logged in), and after verifying several different Steam accounts, we've arrived at the conclusion that there is an "issue" with the sorting order.

So, by default, Steam always shows the "Sort by" order after "Relevance." If you choose to sort the list by "Release Date" or "User Reviews," it will show 1,821 titles. The "Name," "Lowest Price," and "Higher Price" order-sorting filters will result in 1,912 titles. So there might be over 90 Linux games that don't have a release date on that list.
