Linux News Today: SteamOS Brewmaster 2.61 Beta Update Brings Goodies from Debian Linux 8.3

Posted on January 28, 2016 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

Valve and the SteamOS developers have announced earlier, January 28, 2016, that they've promoted the SteamOS Brewmaster 2.61 update to the brewmaster_beta channel.

SteamOS Brewmaster 2.61 Beta is the first version of the Linux kernel-based operating system to be powered by Debian GNU/Linux 8.3 (Jessie), which was released a few day ago, updating many of the core components and applications.

"This is a minor release, mainly a rollup of all the Debian 8.3[www.debian.org] updates and the usual security fixes," the SteamOS developers explained in today's official release announcement.

Among the updated packages, we can mention Apache, APT, BIND9, FUSE, OpenSSH, OpenLDAP, Perl, WebKitGTK, Rsyslog, PCRE3, PAM, ISC DHCP, shadow, netcfg, libssh, libpng, file, ca-certificates, multipath-tools , and steamos-base-files.

As usual, if you want to jump ship to the brewmaster_beta channel of SteamOS and like to live on the bleeding-edge, you can grab the latest SteamOS Brewmaster 2.61 Beta update right now from Softpedia.

Of course, you should always keep in mind that this is a pre-release version of the Debian-based SteamOS operating system, which means that some features might be incomplete or issues could occur at any time.

Most probably, Valve will soon release a new stable update of SteamOS if everything goes smoothly with the testing of SteamOS Brewmaster 2.61 Beta. You can also download the latest stable version of SteamOS from our website.
