Canonical's Sergio Schvezov was happy to announce earlier today, February 11, 2016, the general availability of the second point release of the Snapcraft 2 Snappy creator tool for the Snappy Ubuntu Core operating system.
According to Mr. Schvezov, it would appear that Snapcraft 2.2 is a rather boring release when compared to last week's groundbreaking Snapcraft 2.1 version, as it only contains a small feature that lets users set the output snap.
In layman's terms, Snapcraft now makes it easier for Snappy Ubuntu Core users to implement cleanbuild, which means builds with Canonical's LXD containers. Besides this new functionality, Snapcraft 2.2 includes the usual bugfixes and small tweaks.
"We are pleased to announce this release new version (2.2) of Snapcraft," said Sergio Schvezov. "When compared to 2.1, 2.2 is a rather boring release. It would be 2.1.2 if it weren't for a small feature that landed which allows to set the output snap."
Installing Snapcraft 2.2 in your Ubuntu OS
As expected, Canonical already pushed the new Snapcraft 2.2 version to the main software repositories of the upcoming Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system, so you'll be able to install it using the first two commands listed below.
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install snapcraft If you also want to install the examples package, you have to use the following command, but not after running the two commands listed above. Users of other Ubuntu Linux operating systems should also get Snapcraft 2.2 soon.
