Linux News Today: Rygel Open Source Media Server Now Tries to Make Nice Movie Titles for Videos

Posted on February 18, 2016 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

Rygel 0.30 is on track for the GNOME 3.20 desktop environment release in late March, so its developers are releasing new milestones to patch various issues, as well as to implement new features.

The Rygel 0.29.3 snapshot is now ready for public testing and according to the internal changelog (attached at the end of the article for reference) it fixes the DLNA profile and extension for DVD ISO images, thus adding support for more renderers.

The "Server:" HTTP header has been added, there's a patch for a small memory leak related to the handling of DescriptionDocument, some core refactoring was applied as well, and the application will now attempt to make nice movie titles for videos.

Furthermore, the UNIX signal handling has been removed from mx-extract, single DVD titles are now exported automatically, a potential race condition, as well as a startup crash are now avoided, and the URI generation has been fixed.

Last but not least, Rygel will now try to get the tile of a DVD from its file name instead of the volume title. The Polish, German, Chinese (Taiwan), and Brazilian Portugues language translations have been updated.

If you want to take Rygel 0.29.3 for a test drive, you can grab the sources right now from Softpedia, just please try to keep in mind that it's a pre-release version, not suitable for production use. More details in the changelog below.
