Linux News Today: Fedora 24 Alpha Freeze Now in Effect, to Be Seeded to Public Testers on March 22

Posted on March 09, 2016 by Syauqi Wiryahasana

Fedora Project's Dennis Gilmore announced on the day of March 8, 2016, that the Alpha build of the Fedora 24 Linux operating system is now officially in feature freeze, and it will be seeded to public testers on March 22, 2016.

A lot of changes are happening on the Fedora Project in regards with the upcoming release of the Red Hat-powered GNU/Linux distribution, which appears to no longer ship with the next-gen Wayland display server by default for the GNOME 3.20-based Workstation edition.

However, a lot more other great features and many of the latest GNU/Linux technologies are coming to Fedora 24 this Summer, and early adopters will be able to get a first taste of the upcoming Linux kernel-based operating system next week when the Alpha builds gets out.

"Today is also the Alpha freeze. This means that only packages which fix accepted blocker or freeze exception bugs will be marked as 'stable' and included in the Alpha composes," said Dennis Gilmore, Leader of Fedora Release Engineering Team. "Today is also the Software String freeze."

For now, the Fedora 24 release schedule remains unchanged, after it has been already modified twice, and it looks like while the Beta build will be seeded to public testers on May 3, the final release of Fedora 24 Linux is coming on June 7, 2016. Come back next week to download the Fedora 24 Alpha and see what's new.
